The June Workshops
Sunday 2 June — Sunday 16 June
Aegean Center Summer Workshops offers single accommodations with private bath in a selection of hotels within walking distance to the Center. Sheets and towels are provided. All rooms have free WiFi. We believe it is important for participants to have individual accommodations.
The proximity of the hotels to the Center makes it easy to dash home for lunch but the area is well supplied with charming cafes and tavernas which offer high quality meals, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Greek food is wholesome, healthy and moderately priced.
Parikia is a traditional island village, built for pedestrians who stroll on cobblestoned market streets and neighborhoods. The lack of advertising and car traffic make it a peaceful and calming environment.
Why come to Paros to learn art?
Artists have been attracted to Greece for centuries. The special quality of the light in the Aegean, the rich classical heritage, pleasant weather and inexpensive living costs are among the reasons. These elements and the warm acceptance of the inhabitants made the islands a haven for artists seeking to find the solitude and the space to connect to their creative source.
What does Paros offer now? An environment free of malls, highways and advertising; a beautiful unpolluted landscape; a simplified schedule, walkable access to most needs, easily found social life, casual atmosphere. And with nature nearby, living in a new culture allows you to depart, to learn about yourself in the reflection of others. A community of people doing creative work where you join others engaged in creative arts.
The Center has a more than 50 year history providing studies in the fine arts, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. The faculty are experienced teachers who are all deeply committed to their craft and who provide the very best hands-on instruction.
The Aegean Center is housed in a neoclassical building in the center of the village of Parikia, the main port town on the island of Paros, Greece. The island of Paros is rural, beautiful and very accessible by bus and by foot.
Students enjoy the fresh, delicious food, the unpolluted environment, and the proximity of the Center to the housing and shopping area.
Our building is airy, and well lit with natural light, and marble floors. We have a large library of art books, high speed internet and a courtyard filled with flowers. The studios have easels and good lighting, the digital lab is state of the art, with 11 Mac computers and and multiple printers.
